“I never take breaks.”

I used to proudly this habit. I used to wear this as a badge of honor.

As if not taking breaks was a sign of how strong and brave I am.

And then, with some introspection, the answer was quite evident.

Maybe, I was not being strong or brave.

Maybe, I was trusting enough.

Maybe, I was afraid that if I didn’t work hard, everyone else would get ahead of me. If I didn’t hold on tightly, the answer will slip away from me.

Taking a break might not be that you are running away from your work or your calling.

In fact, it is entirely possible that what you need a break to make progress.

Take a week off. Go for a long walk after lunch every day. Sit quietly and meditate for 20 minutes after an intense meeting.

Stillness is our friend.
