I spoke to a friend recently, and she told me that she feels guilty for putting out her Marketing content, amidst all the coronavirus chaos.

“I don’t want to add to the noise”, she told me.

This made me think.

How do we engage in Marketing in such tricky situations? What do we say? Do we put out content? Do we share our insights? Or do we give our tribe some space, and let them deal with this situation?

These are challenging times, of course. People are dying for god’s sake. The economy is slowing down. We are all worried.

Now if you look at Marketing as a tool purely to sell people, then there is a problem. If you engage in Marketing that is sleazy and scammy, then there is a problem.

But I believe that you are not of those.

You engage in Marketing that is generous and helps the culture.

Amidst all the chaos and noise, your tribe is craving connection. They are longing for something that makes them feel alive. They want to be seen.

While there might be people who are stuck in pure panic, there are also people who are looking to make the best out of the current situation. Some of them want to write a book, while some are learning new skills through online courses.

Your job and my job is to serve them.

So no, today is not the day, when we stop our Marketing.

Do not feel guilty about putting out your work.

Your ‘Marketing’ is a gift for your tribe.

You are not adding to the noise.

Your tribe needs you, more than ever.
